A doctor is a person who treats common disorders and malfunctions that affect our normal day-to-day life. They are usually referred to as a ‘life savers’ by a common individual, and rightly so. A doctor’s profession is a highly respectable one, albeit closer to that of a social service where in the doctor strives for the well being of people. The important duties of doctors are preliminary tests, diagnosing, minor operations, and treatments for injuries, diseases or any disorders. It also includes educating the general public and making them aware of the common health disorders.
The profession of a doctor cannot be compared with others. A doctor must have patience, must be emotionally stable, calm and tactful whilst dealing with patients. The doctors should be able to work fast, take quick decisions, and work accurately. They should be able to carry responsibilities and have the capacity to work under high pressures. Physical and mental fitness is a must as they need to work for long and irregular hours. Some may even work for shifts.
The doctors are indirectly performing the task of looking after the wellness of the society. As a qualified doctor or GP, he or she will have excellent knowledge about the symptoms, diseases and its treatment. Doctors initially collect patient history before making any diagnosis. They in fact use several modern techniques and equipments which are available in modern times to get a clear picture of the diseases or the disorders.
Whether the treatment is medical, surgical or therapeutic, it is important to consider all the information. It is sometimes necessary to refer the patient if there are special diagnostics or treatments to be made. Medicine is a very vast field with wide range of specializations. They complete the basic medical schooling from a university and can pick up a specialist course of their interest to become a specialist in a particular area. There are many fields, to name a few, gynecology which is concerned with the women’s health, oncology which deals with the treatment of cancer, pediatrics which is the branch of medicine dealing with the infants health, dentist specialized with the teeth, orthopedics dealt with the bones, surgeons performing the surgeries etc… Getting the qualifications is very tough, as the entry criteria is somewhat restricted in most countries to top students, but the rewards are excellent.
