Types of Nursing
Nursing can be classified as Registered Nursing (RN), Licensed Nursing (LN) and Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN). The duty of LPNs is mainly to provide care to patients and generally they work under a doctor or a registered nurse. Registered nurses and licensed nurses have to supervise the LPNs while they work.
At the same time, nursing assistants are not considered as nurses and their main duty is to assist LPNs and RNs. Nursing is also categorized under categories such as full time or part time nursing, contract nursing, public health nursing, travel and industrial nursing.
Nursing Specialities
Nurses can choose their specialization from numerous possible options. These specializations are generally based on the type of environment in which the nurses have to work. Some of the major nursing specialties are listed here.

Ambulatory Care Nursing: This involves treatment of patients in outpatient care environment. The duty of nurses having this specialization is to treat patients with various types of diseases.

Critical Care Nursing: Nurses having this specialty are required to treat patients in ICUs and have to treat patients who need immediate care such as those suffering from respiratory failure, heart attacks, strokes etc.

Home Health Care Nursing: Nurses having this specialty handle patients recuperating from various diseases, accidents or surgeries at their homes.

Gyn Nursing: Nurses having this specialty aid women during and after child birth and work in nursing homes.
