Today you can go about being a nurse in several different ways.  Today you can really tailor your educational experience so that it fits into your life and your time line.  Knowing about the different nursing schools and your options will allow you to make the best choices for your educational needs.

Community College

You can go to a community college where you will usually find two year degree programs available for you to take advantage of.  These courses will require your regular attendance and afterward you can take your exam to be a licensed vocational nurse.  This will allow you to get into the entry level nursing jobs that help many nurses get their foot in the door and really begin enjoying a career in nursing.  Many community colleges allow for you to take some, if not all, of your courses online to make getting your degree easier.

Four Year College or University

You can also go to a four year college or university where you will be able to get a higher degree such as your Bachelor of Science degree or even your Master’s degree.  Of course, you would first need to have your associate’s degree before you can enter into these programs.  Some four year educational institutions also offer online courses that will allow you to get your education more conveniently.

Online Nursing Schools

In the last five to ten years more and more online nursing schools have cropped up.  Now you can do the majority, if not all, of your nursing education online.  Some of these schools allow you to self pace while others have a more rigid timeline.  One must be very self motivating to complete such a program as there is no teacher standing over you with due dates and timelines; you have to do it on your own.  One must be aware that not all employers take online nursing schools seriously, so if you choose to go this route you should be sure that you go with a more well esteemed online nursing school to ensure that you are able to get a nursing job when you have completed your education and passed the necessary nursing exams required by the state or region.
