Nursing is a very necessary job in the medical field, but like any job it is not without its problems.  The biggest problem facing the nursing profession today is the shortage of nurses all around the world.  The shortage is due, in no small part, to the environment in which the nurse will find him or herself working.  Many people just cannot deal with the stress of the job, which has lead to the shortage, which has further taxed those who are still working in the nursing profession.

Much of the problem with the nursing profession is that nurses often have more patients that they feel they can adequately take care of.  Studies have shown that most nurses are working despite cognitive overload because they are taking care of patients and multi-tasking every step of the way.  Nurses often have to contend with poor communication from doctors, poor lighting, illegible handwriting, and poor label designs which just come together to make the nursing job more difficult.

Some studies have shown that the nursing profession exceeds the limits of the human body and mind.  Many hospitals and medical facilities are taking this information and changing the set up of their practices to limit the stress of the nursing position as much as possible.  The key is to reduce the overload that nurses are experiencing in their jobs.  This will make each nurse more efficient at what she does do.  Doctors can help relieve the nurse by doing his or her job and not putting more responsibility on the nurse while he or she is working.
